Enamel
The enamel is the outer layer of our teeth. It acts as a shield to protect our teeth. Our enamel is translucent and is not actually responsible for the color of our teeth.

Dentin
The dentin is the layer which sits underneath the enamel. This layer is weak and less dense compared to enamel. Sensitivity occurs when the dentin layer is exposed. This layer of the tooth is what is actually responsible for the color of our teeth.

Cementum
The cementum is the layer covering the roots of our teeth. This layer is naturally protected by our gums. Cementum can be exposed due to gingival recession. Once exposed the cementum becomes extremely sensitive and is prone to cavities (dental decay).

Pulp Chamber
The pulp chamber is a hollow space within the tooth. The contents of the pulp chamber includes blood vessels and nerve fibers.
